What is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist? A registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) is a food and nutrition expert who provides evidence-based and up-to-date nutrition information and helps make the science personal. Dietitians must first complete the strict academic requirements to become an RDN, and then must maintain accreditation by meeting continuing education requirements. All RDNs may call themselves dietitians, registered dietitian nutritionists (RDN), or even nutritionists, but not all nutritionists can call themselves dietitians!
Ruth Schrager, MPH, RDN Ruth is a leading registered dietitian nutritionist and health coach who empowers individuals and groups to reach their health and nutrition goals. Her practice emphasizes food as medicine, and she uses proven nutrition strategies with a common sense approach to optimize wellness and prevent disease.
Ruth earned both her Masters in Public Health (MPH) and her Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential from UC Berkeley.
She founded Alameda Nutrition in 2009 and is honored to work with private clients as well as Alameda Head Start. In the past, Ruth has been a lecturer at UC Berkeley, has taught diabetes and wellness classes at local hospitals, has been a past president of the Bay Area Dietetic Association and has served on advisory committees to both the UC Berkeley and San Francisco State University dietetic internship program. When not immersed in the world of nutrition, you can find her running or hiking around the bay area, digging in her garden, drinking ginger tea, or kicking a soccer ball with her kids.
Shweta Vermin, RDN, NBC-HWC Shweta Verma is an experienced Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) and health coach for over 12 years providing nutrition coaching to clients of varying ethnic and professional backgrounds in the Bay Area.

She completed her degree in dietetics from San Jose State University in 2011 with Summa Cum Laude recognition. She also has a bachelor’s degree in Home Science with Nutrition as one of the focus areas from Punjab Agricultural University, India.
Shweta loves to come up with healthier alternatives to conventional and popular recipes in her own home cooking. Her enthusiastic cooking assistant these days is her 4 year old son! She also enjoys practicing hot yoga/Pilates and taking nature walks with friends and family.
Gina Grace Stevens Gina is currently studying at University of California, Davis to earn her Bachelor's in Clinical Nutrition and become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. She graduates in Spring of 2025, and she is attending Columbia University in New York to earn her Master's in Nutritional Science.
She assists Ruth with scheduling clients, sorting and contacting patients from incoming referrals, creating educational handouts, and maintaining close client relationships through Ruth's social networks. You'll likely hear from her when it's time to reschedule an appointment or Ruth needs a photo of your insurance card. When not handling the details for Ruth, Gina spends her time as Lead Director for a nonprofit that implements nutrition education into local elementary schools. She's ran two marathons and is currently training for her third. It's easy to find her brainstorming new recipes, exploring California's national parks, and studying for midterms on the U.C. Davis campus.
