What is a Registered Dietitian? A registered dietitian (RD) is a food and nutrition expert who provides evidence-based and up-to-date nutrition information and helps make the science personal. Dietitians must first complete the strict requirements to become and RD, and then must maintain accreditation by meeting continuing education requirements. All RDs may call themselves dietitians, registered dietitian nutritionists (RDN), or even nutritionists, but not all nutritionists can call themselves dietitians.
